Pulse Plasma Nitriding
PulsPlasma® nitriding (PPN) is an advanced thermochemical heat treatment that creates highly wear- and corrosion-resistant nitride layers on steel surfaces. Using a pulsed direct-current glow discharge, process-specific gas mixtures - predominantly nitrogen, hydrogen, and methane - are efficiently dissociated under vacuum conditions. This innovative process is characterized by particularly low gas consumption, lower emissions compared with alternative processes, and the avoidance of harmful by-products.
PPN technology allows precise control over the structure and properties of the nitride layers. By adjusting key process parameters—such as gas composition, temperature, duration, pressure, and voltage—the treatment can be tailored to meet the specific functional and operational requirements of each component.
Relevant industries
Automotive
Pulse Plasma Nitriding significantly increases the durability and efficiency of critical automotive powertrain components such as crankshafts, camshafts, coupling parts and synchronizer rings, delivering longer service life, higher performance and reduced maintenance for modern vehicles.
Aerospace & Defense
Pulse Plasma Nitriding increases the resistance of metallic components to wear and corrosion - even in titanium materials. The process is used, for example, in aerospace components or mechanically highly stressed systems in the defense sector.
Tool and mold
Enhances surface hardness, reduces abrasive and adhesive wear. Extended lifetime of cutting tools, stamping dies, forging and forming dies.
